<P>This month's EtsyMetal Blog Carnival topic:</P>
<B><P>My Jewelry Box</B></P>
<hr>
Well, here we are already at the start of three months into the new year. It's been a while since I blogged. A long while. Thought with this month's Blog Carnival topic I would jump back in and share some of my "heirlooms" if you will. None of them are worth millions (or more than hundreds...) of dollars. But all of them are near and dear to my heart. And to be completely honest, I don't wear any of them. Well, maybe except for the lab alexandrite ring my husband gave me. But even that just isn't really in my style so I don't wear it much. But I keep it close and enjoy the meaning behind it.
So without any further ado:
<hr>
Carved Alaskan Native bracelet
<br>Not sure what it is made from. Possibly walrus ivory. Possibly bone. Just not sure. It is marked with: Xa (or Ya?) Okpowruk, Shishmaref AK. My Mother-in-law gave it to me after her Mother had passed away. I love it. Never would wear it, for fear it would get ruined. But I love to look at the little carved huskies, musher and sled.

<br>
Next up is a tiny gold cross that was my Grandmother Theodore's. This one I keep purely for sentimental reasons. I am not Christian so the cross really has no meaning to me. However, it, along with the tiny porcelain box I keep it in, was my grandma's. I loved her so and still, occasionally, dream about her. In these dreams, I always say, "Where have you been? I haven't seen you in such a long time..." and then I wake up. She always looks young and stylish in the dreams. She was such a beautiful dresser. She loved shoes and would buy a new pair for any occasion. And if they were on sale, she might buy two pair and perhaps a blouse to match.
I am guessing since I am writing about her now, I will dream about her soon. I hope I do.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJQFHjaozFP5aWQo6ALVAzO5EB-WX065OSgHL2oYKyKf8Vn_ciq9xn-BdCByFSwCFgO1PeVg7qx3ldd5Wq54g-9nSExLNz812FdNGwgM2Qq05Y1kGV1HX5JpZmL0WavrfQ5zMQ/s1600/IMG_0005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJQFHjaozFP5aWQo6ALVAzO5EB-WX065OSgHL2oYKyKf8Vn_ciq9xn-BdCByFSwCFgO1PeVg7qx3ldd5Wq54g-9nSExLNz812FdNGwgM2Qq05Y1kGV1HX5JpZmL0WavrfQ5zMQ/s320/IMG_0005.JPG" /></a></div>
<br>
The white gold ring with a lab created alexandrite was given to me by Paul, my partner in crime. I think it was for an anniversary (terrible I don't remember, no? It's okay, we have been married over 20 plus years, I can't keep everything straight ;)
When photographing this today, in the light box the stone was a deep, teal green. When the camera snapped the picture the stone shows up purple. One of the reasons I love this ring is the chameleon nature of this stone. Pictures here do no justice. Just believe me, it is a pretty stone. Dirty as of this writing, but pretty. Matches my perpetually dirty fingernails. Comes with the job.

Last but the very farthest from least is my little relic antique greek key ring. My Mom bought this from a lady who would travel the world in search of treasures. Her name was Julia. Unfortunately her last name escapes me. She was a "personal shopper" and I have really no idea when or where my Mom met her. All I really remember is my Mom would call on her occasionally and bring home amazing little treasures. This is one of the things she bought for me when I was a very young girl (tomboy). I wore it non-stop, every day for years. I wore it so much it actually broke and I had to fix it carefully (nearly melted it so I gave up trying for a perfect fix) years down the line. I don't wear it anymore. I just keep it along with my other "treasures" and pull them all out on occasion and remember their stories.

That about covers it for me.

This month's EtsyMetal Blog Carnival topic:
<br />Valentine's Day is coming... how does romance figure into your work? What does it mean to you?
<br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIxHyYyGoDlxP5-gl5u6WNwkNstFMq-BjtDHHOWY8-jjLo0uu_oJuaKrxHWtMpbrkxHcOEZoERbaHaQqDothO_Ew4XY3QDRaFBb3j6C7i3_PiCKWKtND5ggRR5afdzOMWhAp84/s1600/IMG_0010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIxHyYyGoDlxP5-gl5u6WNwkNstFMq-BjtDHHOWY8-jjLo0uu_oJuaKrxHWtMpbrkxHcOEZoERbaHaQqDothO_Ew4XY3QDRaFBb3j6C7i3_PiCKWKtND5ggRR5afdzOMWhAp84/s320/IMG_0010.JPG" /></a></div> </CENTER>
<p>I am an absolute romantic at heart. I love a good love story, I have been known to read trashy romance novels (some maybe even twice) and, boy, do I LOVE weddings. All of this may seem funny coming from a tomboy such as myself. I have never been accused of being a princess or a "girly" girl. But I am a romantic.
<P>Amor Vincit Omnia: Love Conquers All. These are words I live by. And I believe that with all my heart, love truly does conquer all.
<p>As corny as it may sound, I pour my heart into every piece of jewelry I make. When creating pair of rings for someone, I think about the people who will be wearing them, how the receiver may be caught off guard by the gift of jewelry. I like to think that there may be a few (happy) tears and big hugs. And maybe someone kneeling down on one knee to ask that all important question. The one that will eventually be answered with a "I Do!" And knowing that something that I am creating will play a part in that? Oh, that makes me a happy soul.
<p>I love the creation process and the act of handing a small piece of myself over in my work. I would like to think that something that I create will be handed down from a Mother to a Daughter or a Son and that there may be a story told about how one felt when they were given that gift. I hope that the love and energy I put into my work moves throughout the world. Little by little. The world can always use more love. I am happy to do my part in sharing it.

</CENTER>
I am moving into this new year with a renewed sense of "self." That may sound a bit… err, selfish. And to be honest, it is. And I am okay with that. I am in my 4th decade of life. I will turn 43 this May. It has finally occurred to me that it is perfectly okay to focus on ME. That is something that I have not done enough of in my 40 plus years. I may have moments that I have turned inward and done things for me and only me. But this resolution is a bit different. Not so much a selfish act but a self act.
<P>
I have spent the majority of my adult life worrying about everyone else. Whether it be my friends, my family or others that I don't know but thought I needed to help. I don't regret the path, but I feel like it is time to divert off this well worn walkway and cut a new one.
<P>I came to a revelation a few days ago about how I have always found a way (consciously or subconsciously) to prevent taking my business to the next level. Whether it was due to first needing to work full time for someone else, then to raising my son, then volunteering at his school, then volunteering for my community, I have always put what I truly want on the back burner. With the new year and my new sense of "self" I have made the conscious decision that 2014 will be about doing what I really want to do. And for me, that is pouring all of my creative energy into taking my art to the next level. I have taken some big steps in the last few days to clear my mental space as well free up my weekly calendar to allow me to take this new year head on! I can hardly wait!
<hr>
So without further delay…
<P>
<B>Here is my short list of goals for 2014</B>
<br>
<br>1. Design and fabricate a weekly item using at least one thing from my current "stash" (<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/silentgoddess/tags/3xrchallenge/">Rx3 EtsyMetal Challenge</a>)
<br>2. Create one of a kind pieces for the gallery
<br>3. Submit artwork for publication
<br>4. Pursue additional retail outlets for my artwork
<br>5. Be more invested with art-driven groups
<P>
This is the first year in a long time that I have really thought about yearly goals and set them. I am pretty excited to see that my year ahead will be filled with artistically driven endeavors. This, alone, should make these easy(and fun) goals to reach.
<P>
Here is to a WONDERFUL 2014!

This month's EtsyMetal Blog Carnival topic:
<br />
What are your favorite recipes? Simple ones, difficult ones, BBQ, crock pot, patinas...?! Feel free to add a story about the success or failure of them.
<hr>
This recipe's history with me is very bittersweet (oh, but the pie is only sweet. Sweet deliciousness in epic proportions). I was introduced to it by a really good friend. Well, a really good friend at the time. One who would suddenly up and disappear out of my life, basically overnight, taking herself and this recipe with her without a second look.
<P>
I spent months trying to figure out what the Hell happened to this once amazing friendship. Then while wallowing, I realized that not only did she steal away out of my life without a care but she took this damn recipe with her. I spent months. Seriously... months searching for it online. Doing every kind of Google search imaginable using search terms that only the best tongue twister could conjure up. Then one day, one glorious day, I found it. I found the Holy Granny Smith Grail of pie recipes. HA! Take that "friend..."</P>
<P>
Okay, enough negativity. I don't want to jade you on what could be one of the BEST apple pies you will ever taste. All I want you to remember about this pie is the very first bite you take. Savor that sweet, unmatchable moment. It is a moment that you may just carry with you from here and throughout the rest of your days. And yes. It has pineapple juice in it. Even if you don't like pineapples (for the record, I do not care for the prickly fruit) don't let that stop you from making this masterpiece. I swear, it is worth it. Now go buy some apples.</P>
<P>I do want to mention that I have switched a bit here and there from the original "friend's" recipe. But I am not going to say what I did. Just know that I made this recipe my own; and better. Only she would know the change I made. And that is all I am saying...
</P>

<H3>Texas Apple Pie</H3>
</CENTER>
5 to 6 apples (I use granny smith)
<br>1 unbaked double pie crust (I use store bought...)
<br>3 Tbsp. butter, softened
<br>1-1/2 c. brown sugar
<br>1 egg, beaten
<br>1/4 c. pineapple juice
<br>3 Tbsp. flour
<br>1 t. vanilla
<br>1/4 t. cinnamon
<br>1/4 t. nutmeg
<br>
<br><B>Glaze:</B>
<br>1 Tbsp. brown sugar
<br>1 Tbsp. evaporated milk
<P>
Pare, core and thinly slice (I mean, very thin) 5 to 6 apples. Arrange in an unbaked pie crust. Beat the softened butter, gradually add brown sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Add beaten egg and mix well. Add pineapple juice (yes! pineapple juice), flour, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well and pour over apples. Cover with top crust and vent. Brush with a glaze made of 1 Tbsp. brown sugar and 1 Tbsp. evaporated milk. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or longer until apples are tender. I like my apples to be soft and fully cooked in any apple pie. I test the doneness of the apples through the slits on top of the crust by poking them with a sharp knife. If there is any resistance, I keep baking the pie, testing doneness every 5 minutes or so.
Serve pie warm with ice cream. Or without. Just be prepared to bake several of these pies for friends and relatives once they taste it. You will be responsible for bringing pie for any holiday or special occasion from here on out.
You're welcome.

It feels like a good fit for my artistic heart and bohemian gypsy spirit. It is a little city with a lot of urban energy. Full of art, hipsters, wannabes and wanderlust. With Evergreen State College several miles from the historic downtown core, it is not uncommon to see a few barefoot tree huggers moving about on my AM drive to my studio. Latte' cup in hand, messy bed-head bent down to keep the rain out of bleary, up-too-late-cramming eyes.

This month's EtsyMetal Blog Carnival topic:
<br><B>New Year's Resolutions?</B>
</P>
Eeek! It's that time of year again - A new year, a fresh outlook, new ideas... what are your plans? New goals? New disciplines? Old disciplines and goals you want to try again?!! Spill it! Make it a reality... tell us all! Recap this past year and what you've learned, where it's taken you, where you would like it to take you in 2013.

<hr>
I am not one to make New Year's Resolutions. Well, at least not out loud. To be honest, I spend most of my life contemplating what I can do that will bring changes for the better for myself and my family. It is nearly obsessive at times. And yes, at this time of the year I tend to contemplate more.
<P>We have had several years in a row that have been difficult ones. Started out back in 2009 when Paul was involved in a motorcycle accident. He was injured and had to undergo several surgeries over the next few months. One month after his accident he lost his job. 2009 ended really bad and 2010 started out pretty crappy as well. Back then my thought processes focused on surviving. My resolution was to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. We made it through the the really tough times but I came out of it with high anxiety and calloused fingers. It is funny how when your intentions are truly set on something, you can create what you need. I had some of my busiest months of 2009 and 2010 making jewelry for people. I helped bring in extra income for several months as the unemployment checks were quite lower than the income we were accustomed to.
<P>2011 and 2012 had their hardships as well. However, to bring this into a more positive light, I will switch gears and move toward a more progressive thought process. We made a big move in 2012. After several years of long commutes and too much money poured into the gas tank, we decided to move to Olympia, WA. Paul's job was there and Port Orchard (our previous home) had become somewhere we didn't want to be anymore. We found a sweet little house in an older neighborhood that we are renting and I moved my business into a really neat studio space in downtown Olympia. And that brings us back around to this month's topic: 2013 New Year's Resolutions. Sometimes I take many turns to get to short destination ;)
<P>One of my goals in getting a studio space set up away from the house was to be able to offer classes. As of January 2, 2013 I started on this new journey. My first class of a series of four started on the 2nd. First goal of 2013 is already underway! I am hoping that this is just the very beginning of this new direction for me. My plan is to offer many different varieties of classes from single day courses to multiple day series. I have SO much information and experience rolling around in my head and I am ready to offer it to anyone interested in learning.
<P>Paul and I spent several days of the holiday break getting the studio classroom ready. A great new workbench was constructed, new tools were purchased and a big dream started to become a reality. Here is what we end up with (pictures are of the classroom right before the beginning of my first class):
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<hr>
I hope that this year is a good one for all. I know we all have some battles to fight but try to focus on the good things. They are really what is the most important. And they are out there. Sometimes all you need to do is just start looking...

This month's EtsyMetal Blog Carnival topic:
<br><B>Why Do You Make Jewelry?</B>
</CENTER><P>
Think hard! Dig deep.
</div>
<hr>
<P>One would think this would be a no brainer for me to answer. And actually, it is.
</P>
<P>I make jewelry because I want to.
</P>
<P>Simple enough, right? Yeah, maybe too simple.</P>
<P>
Perhaps the question should be "Why do you WANT to make jewelry?" Sure, we are going to go with that.
</P><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZfhvXoMXJ0eFBGCzhC1aEeRGohAKAEnHu8eFqUfB-gLfL3zj3Sj7CGCkNMzPKMJWC-HiYCICIswSzXIZZnvecY2lR89OoLd1tTqn2fqnN06bnPYa7eyc2ljPR33GlO0AIEv9D/s1600/IMG_0009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="190" width="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZfhvXoMXJ0eFBGCzhC1aEeRGohAKAEnHu8eFqUfB-gLfL3zj3Sj7CGCkNMzPKMJWC-HiYCICIswSzXIZZnvecY2lR89OoLd1tTqn2fqnN06bnPYa7eyc2ljPR33GlO0AIEv9D/s200/IMG_0009.JPG" /></a></div>
<P>Let's go back about 20 years, plus or minus a year. My Mom was a dedicated member of an art group in Las Vegas, NV, called the <a href="http://www.desertsculptors.com" target="_blank">Desert Sculptors</a> and she was also the director of a local art museum as well. She met lots of really creative folks. To this day, even 1000's of miles away from the SW desert, she still calls several of those people great friends. And for good reasons. One of those reasons being, they let nothing get in the way of their creativity. It is people like that, who artist types like me, really want in their corner. Driven creative types help drive others to get and to stay creative.
</P>
<P>One of these creative types is a man by the name of <B><a href="http://www.trippydesigns.net" target="_blank">Don Trippy</a></B>. He is a <a href="http://www.trippydesigns.net/Sculpture.html" target="_blank">sculptor</a>, a <a href="http://www.trippydesigns.net/Wildlife%20Drawing.html" target="_blank">painter</a>, an artist in every sense of the word. One of the things he did way back when was create a foundry for doing bronze pours in Lorenzi Park in North Las Vegas. He set everything up in the bottom of a long empty public swimming pool. The deep concrete walls of the empty pool would contain any "spills" as well as protect anyone nearby from the heat of the 1000+ degree foundry heat. Paul and I along with my Mom went to watch one of his first bronze pours. With Don all geared up a HUGE silver asbestos suit and a large flame throwing torch, he melted the bronze in a large, black graphite crucible. We all sat in rapt by the fire and the glowing bronze melting beneath the heat of that torch. Once the metal was ready to pour, the crucible was lifted and the molten metal was poured to the awaiting sculpture mold. Hot, fiery liquid bronze splashed and sizzled. There was lots of steam and so much heat. But I sat there watching that metal flow thinking it looked like hot pink lemonade and I was HOOKED. I could not stop talking about that molten bronze and how I wanted to be able touch it. Play with it. Create with it. </P>
<P>Several months ago, my Mom got in touch with Don after several years of little communication which brought him the the forefront of one of our conversations one afternoon. During this talk it dawned on me that it was Don Trippy who told me about the beginning jewelry class being offered through the City of LV Parks and Rec department. I realized at that moment that I really owe him a debt of gratitude for that bit of creative direction. For that night, when I first walked into that classroom I knew that I had found what I wanted to do with my life.
</P>
<P>
And here I am, 20 plus (or minus) years later. Creating small works of art in copper and silver. And sometimes gold. Each piece I create I pour a bit of my soul into. No matter if it is a simple silver band or a graceful copper flower blossom. That first cut with my saw or the last buff with the polishing cloth. It all started for me, back then, in the bottom of an abandoned swimming pool one sunny Vegas day.

<br><B>Back to School</B>
</CENTER><P>
Fall has arrived, are you taking any classes or workshops? Metal/jewelry related or other? Is there a new technique you've learned recently?
Do you have children that are in school, what grade, what kind of school and how does it affect your routine/schedule?

Aaaahh. Fall is here. You wouldn't know it by the incredible weather we are experiencing here in the PNW. We have gone days.. well, actually months without rain.
<P>MONTHS.
<P>In Washington state.
<P>I KNOW!
<br><P>
<P>It is pure craziness.

<P>But it still means back to school for my one and only, Cody. He is in 9th grade which means, in these parts, he started high school this year.
<P>I am a Mom to a high schooler. Am I stressed out about it? Not in the least.
<P>This kid of mine (okay, ours...) is amazing. And luckily he is attending a real amazing school that is ideal for independent learners, like himself. We consider ourselves damn lucky to be able to send him to this school. Had Paul not got the job working for the Olympia School District several years back we would have had no idea about the school. But he does work there and that means we did learn about the school. And now Code goes there. Awesome.
<P>
With him back at school, I find myself at the studio each morning Monday thru Thursday. I get to spend about 4 hours of uninterrupted time designing and creating. Lately I have been pouring lots of thought into what types of classes I want to offer this Fall/Winter out of my studio. I plan on getting my act together and getting my first classes posted and ready for sign ups in the next few weeks with the classes beginning near the end of October, beginning of November.
<P>Fall is not my favorite season. There. I said it. I dread the short, gray days and nonstop rain. I dread the trees losing all of their leaves. By setting up my studio away from my house and teaching classes, I am hoping that it will make these next several months go by a bit smoother for me. Give me something great to focus on instead of what is going on outside my window.
<P>Hey, I am a born dreamer.

This month's EtsyMetal Blog Carnival topic:
<br><B>"Pets"</B>
<br>
Please share your pets with us! Pictures, stories, new pets, old pets, dogs, cats, ants, anything that has ever lived in your house that wasn't human, be they friend or foe!
</div>
</CENTER>
<hr>
If I was to blog about all of the pets that have been a part of my life we would be here until next year, November. I don't think any of us want to spend THAT much time reading about my pets, do we?
<P>Much to my Mother's (and husband's) chagrin I am a animal lover through and through. I think I got it from my Dad. We are both a bit animal crazy.
<P>
So I am going to narrow it down to the here and now. For the most part anyway...
<P>
<CENTER>I can't write this post without showcasing history's number one dog. Ever.</CENTER>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU6mxFNwyvX6Q9rF6vp-WGojbBtO6UuwLjwqDOjhZPfCPiweE6BTFCKiT66XSZC066cqJ-BRovAco9sJeKjeDMma1V_2FGRGoKw0JbVtspQXa5XbvqBAorevMMjyJkijnpbPid/s1600/meandbubba.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="297" width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU6mxFNwyvX6Q9rF6vp-WGojbBtO6UuwLjwqDOjhZPfCPiweE6BTFCKiT66XSZC066cqJ-BRovAco9sJeKjeDMma1V_2FGRGoKw0JbVtspQXa5XbvqBAorevMMjyJkijnpbPid/s320/meandbubba.jpg" /></a></div>
That pup there is Wrangler. That dorky girl. Yup, you guessed it. Me. That was the day we brought Wrangler home.
<br>My Dad and I adopted him from the pound when I was in 6th grade. He was the first dog that was MINE. And he was the BEST dog IN THE WORLD. My Mom put up with him, due to how awesome he was. Wrangler was a part of my life until I was 18. Putting him to sleep is still on the top of my "hardest days of my life" list.
<P>
Okay, moving ahead to present day and the love of my dog life: Samson.
<P>
Samson is a Boston Terror. I mean, Boston Terrier. After a life of having BIG dogs, Paul and I decided that maybe, just maybe we would try a small dog this go 'round. After spending some time with a Boston Terrier one day at Paul's office picnic, we decided THAT would be the next breed we would welcome into our home. When my brother caught wind of the fact we were considering a BT he said to me... "a terrier? Are you sure you want a terrier?" Pashaw! Of COURSE! What does HE know? Boston Terriers are the GREATEST DOG IN THE WORLD, don't you know?? We spent a WHOLE day with one. We KNOW what we are talking about...
<p>
Obviously he KNEW what he was talking about. Terriers are just another word for Terrors.
But we LOVE this Terror:
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXMJOxLV3Qx45-HO_qn7909bofG6IdPejjnsScCu075H0PLc4BIZlfKxLQuLJnEkWFInGzO1lG9DtR_fnGlkTTOZPKKq657KsfCZEXAXI5h_VWA6IZ0QMFyyy_LewMVaQV42gM/s1600/IMG_0557.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="320" width="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXMJOxLV3Qx45-HO_qn7909bofG6IdPejjnsScCu075H0PLc4BIZlfKxLQuLJnEkWFInGzO1lG9DtR_fnGlkTTOZPKKq657KsfCZEXAXI5h_VWA6IZ0QMFyyy_LewMVaQV42gM/s320/IMG_0557.jpg" /></a></div>
I don't have many good pictures of Samson in action. He is really hard to photograph except when he is sleeping. Because he moves around too much to get shots that aren't blurry. So I have a lot of good pictures of him sleeping...
<P>
But we do have an overload of videos of him. Here are two of my faves:
<P>
The beginning of this one is a little stomach churning due to the Blair Witch style camera handling ... but the under-the-cabinet dive near the end makes it worth it (well, at least I think so).
<P>
Paul is trying to get Samson's leash on so he can take him outside. Sammy wants NOTHING to do with it...
<br><CENTER>
<object><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"></param><param name="movie" value="https://www.facebook.com/v/380639316287"></param><embed src="https://www.facebook.com/v/380639316287" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="1"></embed></object>
</CENTER>
<P>
<CENTER>He does NOT like going to bed:
<br>
<object width="480" height="640"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"></param><param name="movie" value="https://www.facebook.com/v/480619876287"></param><embed src="https://www.facebook.com/v/480619876287" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="1" width="480" height="640"></embed></object></CENTER>
<P>
He is quite a handful. His personality is larger than life. He isn't your typical Boston Terrier. He weighs in at nearly 30 pounds. That is about 10 pounds over a typical BT. His ears insist on bending over at the tips. They should stand straight up. But. Samson has NEVER been one to play by the rules. EVER.
<P>We here at the Clark household are pretty smitten with him. Even Paul, who has forever and always put up with my love affair of animals. He knew going into it how I was (that is what I tell him whenever we see a "free kitten" sign...). Gotta love him. He has put up with a lot of animals in our 20 plus years.
<br><CENTER>We will wrap this up today with a few gratuitous puppy shots:

<br>Hi All,
The building where I rent my studio in downtown Olympia has one space available for immediate occupancy.
Dimensions are 12'+ x 15'+. Rent is $320.00/month.
If you would like more info or the owner's contact info email me at silentgoddess.etsy (at) gmail dot com :)
Please see the pictures below for an idea of the building's look and feel :)
</H3>
<P>Been a very busy summer for me. Made a big move to Olympia WA to do away with Paul's 2 hour commute. That meant putting our house we still own up for rent in Port Orchard, finding a house for us to rent in Olympia AND finding a studio space for me to work and teach out of. Luckily I LOVE change so I have been able to enjoy the ride and take all of the upheaval in stride.
<P>
I have been in my studio now for about a month. Sure didn't take much time to settle in and ask myself why I didn't do this sooner! Well, I know why I didn't... studio space was non-existant in Port Orchard (and the surrounding areas). Olympia is a quite a little artist mecca. So I was pretty certain I would be able to find somewhere that would work for me and Silentgoddess Art Jewelry. Granted studio space wasn't waiting to be found on every street corner but luckily a few months before the move I had been in contact with a guy who was advertising space for lease on Craigslist (let me count the ways I LOVE Craigslist!). I looked him up once we got moved into Oly and lo and behold, he still had some vacant spaces.
<P>
Didn't take me much time to fall in love with the largest space he had available. It is actually two spaces with a great big walk thru doorway. One space for my bench and one space for teaching. A perfect fit!
<P>
Here is the new home of Silentgoddess Art Jewelry:
<P>

Looking into my work space from the entrance. Doesn't that old brick just scream "art studio" to you?
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcOGeeE-BDeV8EnV-DU80PgO8EUkBB_3yc23FOe8yVrXgFxFy7zvytn3TZNCqgdkCRHmYh8F0Vn3oK_A8Nxc2zsYEPPRI9_B8meFyshrdtHRpr2L9DlLpEHwj6GzV1OZo8yjl8/s1600/emptystudio2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear:left; float:left;margin-right:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="240" width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcOGeeE-BDeV8EnV-DU80PgO8EUkBB_3yc23FOe8yVrXgFxFy7zvytn3TZNCqgdkCRHmYh8F0Vn3oK_A8Nxc2zsYEPPRI9_B8meFyshrdtHRpr2L9DlLpEHwj6GzV1OZo8yjl8/s320/emptystudio2.jpg" /></a></div>
Looking toward the classroom entrance.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjVSTfnKkg2Zg0Afeu3EVIf5cO1NR_3YaZMzzhogZInCOhlIR9Djvwj2xUGBf2j7k0ZHC3nW61yjpfU5Y1dhGsDZvPBI5gqQuECLhLF_j94bspJ-5k9drG1GSPMmDjsoi7lVxa/s1600/emptystudio3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear:left; float:left;margin-right:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="240" width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjVSTfnKkg2Zg0Afeu3EVIf5cO1NR_3YaZMzzhogZInCOhlIR9Djvwj2xUGBf2j7k0ZHC3nW61yjpfU5Y1dhGsDZvPBI5gqQuECLhLF_j94bspJ-5k9drG1GSPMmDjsoi7lVxa/s320/emptystudio3.jpg" /></a></div>
Classroom space. I took the photo at a bit of a funny angle so it looks smaller than it actually is. Granted, the space isn't ginormous but it will work for classes up to 4 people. And that is the max amount I would want to be instructing at one time. Works for me!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyIFsfT_LLiLBLUsIdHXEpDE5_6xH9k6zkir2bCYFZmTBfnUPfx4UOlaB1Ci6omSckamWpaoqGjm7ahxj_y_uFDvDmAOU_J11_XuEPdcqsgxX-s2tKb2ii781P5CYje6bzba0A/s1600/emptystudio4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear:left; float:left;margin-right:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="240" width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyIFsfT_LLiLBLUsIdHXEpDE5_6xH9k6zkir2bCYFZmTBfnUPfx4UOlaB1Ci6omSckamWpaoqGjm7ahxj_y_uFDvDmAOU_J11_XuEPdcqsgxX-s2tKb2ii781P5CYje6bzba0A/s320/emptystudio4.jpg" /></a></div>
Each entrance off of the main hall has transom windows above the doors. I love a building with character!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<P>
<P>And here is what the main space looks like right after I moved the majority of my stuff in. Yes, I have a rug under my bench. Practical? Perhaps not but I don't like dropping things and creating a bunch of noise for the tenants below me (a children's theater). Honestly, when I had my studio in my house, I had a rug under my chair to protect the carpet (YES... I KNOW... CARPET) below. We do what we gotta do (or want to do, in my case ;).
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLYZmiGXq8neCipcvoKw7BilItPk6ccIMxT5m8eeIaJIpe6MvVNVm1FzTnuf5GXQVBW8FdH-KlxzNhgBSk0RYRMKqSRWLCPtvmuXLA80UeJpBhL7dpBYc_s_a1XNnq64ULyCjC/s1600/fullstudio1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLYZmiGXq8neCipcvoKw7BilItPk6ccIMxT5m8eeIaJIpe6MvVNVm1FzTnuf5GXQVBW8FdH-KlxzNhgBSk0RYRMKqSRWLCPtvmuXLA80UeJpBhL7dpBYc_s_a1XNnq64ULyCjC/s400/fullstudio1.jpg" /></a></div>
Next big step is getting a "real" torch set up. I plan on having a soldering station off to right of my bench by the window. I am still trying to decide what torch set up to get. I am leaning toward the Smith acetylene jeweler's torch. Would love to have input from other torch users. Leave your thoughts in the comments section!

If you are in the Olympia area and are interested in my upcoming classes, contact me via laney (at) silentgoddess (dot) com or thru Etsy. I will get you hooked up with my class schedule. If you have something you want to learn, drop me a line. I am working on what classes to offer and would love your input!

This month's EtsyMetal Blog Carnival topic:
<br><B>What In The World Are You You Doing?</B>
</div>
</CENTER>
<hr>
Now THAT is a question I am asking myself...
<P>You know how change always sounds like such a GREAT idea at the time? And then when it comes down to implementing that change you realize how much work it really involves? That is right where I am, right NOW.
</P>
<P>
The long and the short of it is this... commuting sucks. And my husband Paul has been doing a long one for many years. And we all got really sick of it. Not only due to the time it took out of each day but also because of the $$$ that is was costing us. Add to that I was driving our son 15 miles one way to and from a better school in a different district. We were spending way too much of each paycheck to get from point A to point B and to point C.
</P>
<P>
Cue in the BIG CHANGE.
</P>
<P>
I like change. So much so that I usually don't like to stay in one place much longer than 5 or so years. Back when the housing market was booming, this was an easy lifestyle. Get sick of the house we own? Sell that sucker and move to something new. Fast forward to THIS housing market and the brakes screech us to a halt. No chance of selling the house we own... time to rent it out and head south. That is just what we did. Or are in the middle of doing.
</P>
<P>
It is EXHAUSTING.
</P>
<P>
I am too old for this. And I collect WAY too much stuff when I stay put for 5 years. Note to self: you don't need all of this crap. I promise, you don't. Moving was WAY easier when I was in my 20's. Maybe it was easier back then because I just didn't have that much stuff? Hmmm, I think I am onto something here.
</P>
<P>
Just a peek into our BIG move.
</P>
<P>
I had a 5 bedroom house to pack. Why the Hell we thought buying a 5 bedroom house was a good idea when we only have 3 people in our family... it is a question we have asked ourselves for some time now. Don't even get me started on the equity we have lost with the housing market tanking. But I digress. With Paul already living down in Olympia during the week I had the HUGE responsibility of getting the household ready to move.
</P>
<P>
I offer you but a PEEK into my madness, err, I mean one thing on moving checklist. On the agenda one day last week, my studio.
</P>

</CENTER>
<P>
That took over 6 hours to complete. 6 hours of precious time. And these pictures only show a glimpse of that room. Madness, I tell you, pure and utter madness.</P>
<P>Mind you that once we have finally moved everything down to Olympia, get the "other" house successfully rented out and I get my studio set back up so I can get back to work (I can HARDLY wait... I miss it. BAD) things will settle down. One can only hope, right?
</P>
<P>So THAT is what I have been up to.</P>
